When many people hear the words Amish furniture, they picture heavy oak furniture with a very traditional or rustic appearance.

That isn't necessarily what Amish furniture looks like today.

At Pompano Furniture & Design, we take a different approach. We present our own furniture concepts, pictures, and designs to Amish builders in Apple Creek, Ohio, who then bring those ideas to life using traditional woodworking skills and solid hardwood.

The result is a collection that combines modern design with authentic American craftsmanship—and designs that are exclusive to our store.

What Makes Amish Furniture Different?

Amish furniture isn't defined by one particular style. What makes it different is primarily how it is made.

Rather than being mass-produced on a large factory assembly line, Amish furniture is handcrafted in smaller workshops by skilled artisans who specialize in woodworking.

Attention is given to the selection of the wood, construction, sanding, fitting, and finishing of each piece.

The objective is simple: build furniture well and build it to last.

Made From Real Solid Hardwood

One of the biggest differences is what's underneath the finish.

Our Amish furniture is crafted from genuine hardwoods, with options that can include:

• White oak

• Walnut

• Maple

• Elm

• Cherry

• Other select hardwoods

Every piece of natural wood has its own grain, color variations, and characteristics. That means two tables built from the same design will never be completely identical.

Instead of trying to imitate the appearance of wood, the material itself becomes part of the design.

Amish Doesn't Have to Mean Traditional

This is probably the biggest misconception we hear.

Amish craftsmen are famous for traditional Mission and Shaker furniture, but their woodworking abilities aren't limited to those styles.

We wanted to combine that craftsmanship with a more updated design direction.

At Pompano Furniture & Design, we present our own design ideas, inspiration pictures, and concepts directly to our Amish builders. They then use their woodworking expertise to turn those concepts into finished pieces.

This allows us to offer designs with cleaner lines, interesting bases, updated proportions and contemporary finishes while retaining the quality of handcrafted solid-wood construction.

And because these designs were developed specifically for us, you won't find the same collection in every furniture store.

Furniture You Can Make Your Own

The ability to customize is another reason we love working with Amish craftsmen.

Instead of being limited to one finish or one configuration, many pieces can be personalized for your home.

Depending on the design, you may be able to choose the:

Wood species • Finish color • Size • Table configuration • Base or leg style • Chair style • Upholstery • Performance fabric • Hardware

This is particularly valuable with dining furniture.

We present that concept to the craftsmen.
